The autoresponder series is one of the best tools for generating a passive income (even on a blog), because if setup properly, all you need to do is generate more leads and your pre-written emails will take care of the rest.

The goal of any list is to stay fresh enough in someone’s mind so that when they decide to read one of your emails (and most people won’t read many of them), they remember who you are and that you have given them a lot of value in recent weeks.

From my experience...

I recommend you keep your autoresponders pegged at between 5-7 days. You can send them a bit more frequently, but remember that you will also probably want to send out broadcast emails with special promotions and new products. If you already send them a message every 3-4 days, you risk oversaturating their inboxes.

Once a week keeps you fresh in their minds, offers regular, predictable value, and ensures that when you do send a broadcast, they will at least look at it.

Personally, I don’t believe that clicks are more important than opens. Maybe in the long run, but from message to message I’m much happier to see a high open percentage than click percentage. It means I’m creating a relationship with those readers and they are more likely to click something later. If a message gets a 65% open rate and a 5% click rate, that’s much better (to me) than a 30% open rate and an 8% click rate.

I sent my list a questionnaire about how many emails they would like to receive.Their responses were 1 to 3 per week. So I used this information and started campaigns with 3 messages and 1 to 3 email blast. My open rates increased as well as optins for new products.
This goes against the grain of what most (so called) big time marketers tell people to do.
I also began breaking my auto series into mini trainings if more than 5 messages needed to be included in the series. Again I received improved opens.
Also think and feel like the customer. I receive 8 to 10 messages from some big time marketers and the only thing it does is make me angry.
If you send quality content in your emails, you won't have to bombard your list like so many do.
I agree on the quality content, I've receive many junk emails from autoresponders in the past too, made me mad too!
Excellent advice Anne-Marie, very helpful to all!
Amen to using common sense in how many to send. 1-2 a week is good enough to keep your name in the forefront without making people irritated. Then sending a blast on occasion will get opened more often.

To be honest, I seldom use my autoresponder anymore. I prefer to deliver a PDF file with some real value and let them decide if they want further communication. If nothing else, when they see me next time I think they will appreciate it.
