I guess this being a complicated matter may depend on what type of website you are trying to optimize and your knowledge about the do's and don'ts in SEO. The basic concept in search engine optimization is be able to setting the right keywords and phrases in your website body and tags so the search engines can pick it up and bring it to the top of their first pages. I have seen where there are some people stuffing there sites or pages with tons of search keywords, some which at times which are not even related to the article or website being posted and are penalize by search engines sophisticated algorithms day to day. I just try to keep it simple by not over stuffing my page with unecessary or overcrowding keywords and try to just keep my contents original, relevant, interesting and informative as possible to pick up organic traffic traction which the search engines loves and in turn positions your websites to the top of their search pages

I'd like to suggest another simple practice:

Add hyperlinks.

Google, especially, loves these:

  • links to authoritative sites, and
  • internal links, ie- to other pages on your site.

Google's algorithm has also evolved to recognize continuity in content style. Good meta tags cover the keywords, and the content points to them while not necessarily going out of its way to use them.

This has worked well to keep our snarky sports site, The Daily Player, ranked No 1 on Google. You'll rarely see any of our meta tags in the articles, but the content is doing its job by consistently staying true to them.

I've just noticed that the site I'm gradually building to serve as my hub for online marketing -- Better Life Focus -- has climbed to No 3 on Google's first page for our chosen keywords, for which there are over 29.6million results. It's the No 1 dedicated website listed, and if you scan any of the pages there, you'll rarely see a keyword.

To me, that shows how valuable the two types of links I mentioned can be. You'll notice at least one of each on every page.
